Location

One tool, which reports where this Mac is. It is the only Pomeroy tool that needs the Location grant — Maps and Weather take place names instead.

Location is the narrowest app in Pomeroy and the easiest to leave switched off.

Most people do not need it. Maps and Weather take place names, so “what’s the weather in Lisbon” and “how long to drive to Bristol” both work with Location off. Switch it on only if you want an assistant to be able to ask where you are.

Worth knowing

It is the only tool that needs the grant

Every other tool that could plausibly want your location takes a place name instead. That is a deliberate split: it keeps the Location grant genuinely optional rather than something you have to allow to make Weather work.

While running, not always

Pomeroy asks for location while in use (NSLocationWhenInUseUsageDescription), never the always-on grant. There is no background tracking, and nothing is logged.

The accuracy is reported, not hidden

A Mac without GPS locates itself by Wi-Fi, which can be off by a lot. The answer carries the accuracy in metres so an assistant can say “somewhere within 3km of here” rather than stating a false precision.

Switching Location on asks macOS for access to your location while Pomeroy is running.
